Ghana Armed Forces Suspends Recruitment Exercise After Fatal Stampede

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended its ongoing recruitment exercise scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Sources indicate that GAF officials attributed the suspension to severe internet disruptions caused by the overwhelming number of applicants present at the venue.

“GAF officials informed the applicants that the high turnout was disrupting internet connectivity, hence the need to suspend the process,” reporters on the ground confirmed.

Earlier in the day, the exercise turned chaotic and tragically fatal after a stampede claimed six lives and left 28 others injured. Hospital authorities provided the following breakdown of casualties:

• 6 dead
• 5 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• 12 in fairly critical condition

The screening exercise has been suspended until further notice.
