Police Arrest Man Over Assault on Midwife at Tema Community 22 Polyclinic
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic following a disturbing incident that gained widespread attention on social media.


The GRNMA also released a press statement highlighting the need for the Health Ministry to implement several factors to curb such incidents from happening
The arrest comes after a video showing the confrontation circulated online, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in Ghana.
According to the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when the health professional was reportedly attacked by a relative of a patient while enforcing the facility’s visiting-hour regulations.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, the Directorate described the assault as unprovoked and emphasized that the midwife was simply carrying out her official duties at the time of the attack.
The Directorate strongly condemned the act and reiterated its commitment to protecting healthcare personnel across the region. It also praised the Ghana Police Service for its swift intervention, which helped restore calm at the facility and led to the suspect's arrest.
Authorities indicated that the suspect is expected to appear before court on Monday, June 8, 2026. The Health Directorate further urged the public to channel complaints through designated Client Service Desks, warning that violence and intimidation against health workers will not be tolerated.
