NCA Shuts Down 9 Radio Stations Over Regulatory Breaches

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana for various infractions. This decisive action comes after the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, giving defaulting stations the opportunity to address violations of FM broadcasting regulations.

Six of the affected stations — including Donplus Multimedia Limited in Ho, Dreams Ghana Media Limited in New Abirem, and Jam Multimedia Limited in Kintampo — failed, refused, or neglected to comply with the regulatory amnesty, leading to their suspension.

Additionally, three stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited were shut down for breaching rules such as unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter locations without a Certificate of Compliance. These include stations in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi.

The NCA reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the broadcasting space to ensure full compliance with Ghana’s broadcasting laws and regulations, emphasizing that any station flouting the rules will face similar sanctions.
