The Nayiri, Overlord of Mamprugu, has formally rejected the mediation report on the protracted Bawku Chieftaincy Dispute submitted by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to President John Dramani Mahama on December 16, 2025.

He described the document as procedurally flawed, legally unsustainable, and a clear departure from the neutral role expected of a mediator.

According to the Nayiri, the report grossly misrepresents Mamprugu’s position on the dispute, contains several factual inaccuracies, and unfairly favours one party. He further refuted claims that Mamprugu had agreed to the recognition of Aninchema as Bawku Naba, stressing that such an assertion is false and misleading. He noted that both parties were absent at the time the report was presented and that the mediation process itself ended in a deadlock.

The Nayiri emphasised that lasting peace in Bawku must be anchored in law, fairness, historical truth, and the consent of all stakeholders, not through imposed conclusions.

He firmly stated that no part of Mamprugu’s ancestral heritage would ever be ceded under any circumstance, warning that attempts to force outcomes could undermine peace efforts rather than strengthen them.

He cautioned the government against taking hasty actions based on what he termed a flawed report and called for genuine, inclusive engagement with all parties involved.

Reaffirming his commitment to dialogue, stability, and an impartial resolution of the dispute, the Nayiri assured that Mamprugu remains open to lawful mediation and promised to issue a comprehensive statement on the matter in due course.
