Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Reportedly Passes Away at 76

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has reportedly died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76.

According to reports, Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings had been unwell for some time and was receiving medical treatment before her passing.

She was the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and played a significant role in Ghana’s political and social life for decades.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was widely celebrated for her advocacy for women’s rights and community empowerment. As Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001, she founded the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) in 1982 to promote women’s participation in education, entrepreneurship, and national development.

In later years, she became the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), continuing her long-standing commitment to public service and gender equality.

Her most recent public appearance was on September 18, 2025, when she attended the final funeral rites of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, accompanied by her children.

As of press time, neither her family nor hospital authorities have issued an official statement confirming her passing.
