Man Allegedly Poisons Girlfriend Over GH¢100 in Kasoa Buduburam
Police in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have launched a manhunt for a suspect identified as Kofi Emma, popularly known as Blackee, in connection with the death of a 23-year-old woman at Gomoa Buduburam.
The deceased has been named as Theresa Darkoah, also known as Afia. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Preliminary police information, supported by an account from a close friend of the deceased, suggests the incident followed a disagreement over GH¢100. The friend told journalists that she had known Theresa for years and that they worked together.
She alleged that the suspect had shown romantic interest in Theresa, which was not reciprocated. According to her, the situation intensified when the suspect asked to visit Theresa at her residence. Theresa reportedly explained that her standing fan was faulty and requested GH¢100 to repair it before hosting him.
The friend claimed the suspect sent the money but later demanded a refund after Theresa allegedly stopped responding to his calls. She further alleged that the suspect issued threats, including a warning that he would kill Theresa if the money was not returned.
Despite attempts to calm the situation and assurances that the money would be refunded, the suspect reportedly continued to press for repayment. Shortly afterward, Theresa allegedly contacted her friend, complaining of severe chest pains and sudden illness.
She was rushed to a hospital on a motorcycle but was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital officials later indicated that she had ingested a poisonous substance.
Further allegations suggest that the suspect had earlier stated that if he could not come to Theresa himself, he would send someone on his behalf. It was later reported that an individual delivered medication to Theresa shortly before she fell ill.
Police say they are yet to confirm the identity of the person involved or the exact substance administered. The suspect remains at large, and authorities have appealed to the public for credible information that could aid his arrest.
Police have cautioned against speculation, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
