President Mahama has ordered a forensic investigation into the $245m spent on hosting the 13th African Games in Ghana. The audit—covering contracts, procurement, and infrastructure—follows an NIB report and is due by December 2025.

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an immediate forensic investigation into the organization of the 13th African Games hosted in Ghana.

The directive follows the submission of a report by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), which highlighted concerns regarding procurement processes, contract awards, and infrastructure spending related to the Games.

President Mahama has instructed the Auditor-General to commence a comprehensive audit covering all areas of expenditure, including contracts, procurement, infrastructure, and operational costs.

The President expects the final audit report to be submitted by the second week of December 2025.

  • Total Budget/Expenditure: US$245 million
  • Infrastructure (venues, facilities, etc.): US$195 million
  • Operational/Hosting Costs: US$48 million
  • Athlete Support & Feeding: US$15 million
  • Games Village Hostel Upgrade: US$16.07 million
