Ken Ofori-Atta Reportedly Detained by U.S. Immigration Officials

Former Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, was reportedly detained on Tuesday by officers of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following concerns about his current immigration status.

His lawyers swiftly released this letter explaining that although his visa has expired but they were using all available means to renew his stay permit.

Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but sources indicate the action was related to routine immigration checks rather than any criminal allegations.

According to his legal counsel, Mr. Ofori-Atta has a pending application for adjustment of status, a lawful process that permits an individual to remain in the United States while seeking to regularise their residency beyond the expiration of an existing visa.

His lawyers maintain that this application grants him legal presence in the country and are working to resolve the matter with U.S. authorities.
