The jury's 5–2 verdict brought great relief to Victoria Dapaah's family. They affectionately called her Maadwoa. For them, the life sentence given to Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi is a long-awaited step toward justice. It cannot erase their pain, but it is still important.

The High Court on Friday, October 24, 2025, sentenced Inspector Twumasi to life in prison. He was found guilty of the cold-blooded murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Maadwoa. This case has shocked and saddened the nation. The court found him guilty of using his state-issued rifle to shoot her several times in the abdomen and chest. This happened at close range on April 20, 2023, in Adum, Kumasi.
In the courtroom, Twumasi stood still and expressionless as the judge read the verdict that sealed his fate. The sad story of a police officer using his gun on the woman he once loved has moved many people in Ghana.
The police officer went into hiding after the shooting. He was arrested on April 23, 2023. This happened at Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region during a special police operation.
Friends described Maadwoa as vibrant, ambitious, and full of promise — a young woman whose life was cut short too soon. The sentence cannot bring her back. However, it reminds us that justice will be served. No one, not even those who protect the public, is above the law.
The defense counsel has one month to file an appeal.
