Don't Wait For the Government to Employ you, Create Your Own Jobs - GUTA

Joseph Paddy, Vice President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), has urged young people to stop depending solely on government jobs and instead pursue self-employment and opportunities in the private sector.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Quarterly Economic Outlook on Monday, April 27, he said many young people limit themselves by waiting for public sector recruitment when there are several opportunities available elsewhere. He encouraged job seekers to develop practical skills in communication, marketing, public relations, and digital services.

“Don’t wait for the government to employ you. Employ yourself,” he said, stressing that success in today’s economy often comes through personal initiative and entrepreneurship rather than government hiring.

He further described the private sector as the key driver of national growth. “The private sector is the engine of growth. When you are a private sector person, you can do everything. You can have more than one job,” he added.
