Deputy Defence Minister Announces GHC150,000 Support Package for Families of El-Wak Stampede Victims

Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, announced a relief package of GHC150,000. This package is for each of the six families who lost loved ones in the tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium. After meeting the grieving families at National Square on December 1, Mr. Genfi shared the government's condolences. He also explained the details of the support being offered.

According to him, each family will receive GHC50,000 to cover funeral expenses and an additional GHC100,000 as compensation. He emphasized that the government stands firmly with the affected households during this difficult period and assured them that senior officials will continue to offer support.

Mr. Genfi further disclosed that siblings of the deceased will be given priority consideration in the ongoing military recruitment exercise, as part of efforts to provide long-term relief to the families.

He added that the Ministry of Defence is working closely with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to extend further assistance, including psychosocial counselling and welfare programmes.

The Deputy Minister also noted that President John Dramani Mahama has personally expressed his condolences and has pledged the government’s commitment to supporting the families through their loss.
