In a recent parliamentary update on March 9, 2026, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to the recovery of Sandra Baafi Boateng, one of the most severely affected victims of the tragic stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
The incident, which occurred on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, stemmed from overwhelming crowds of hopeful applicants vying for limited enlistment spots, resulting in serious injuries to several individuals, including Sandra, who has remained bedridden since the event.
Sandra initially received intensive inpatient care and specialist oversight at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, with the government stepping in to cover all her medical expenses from day one, alleviating the financial strain on her family. On February 26, 2026, she was airlifted by military aircraft to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for advanced, multidisciplinary treatment involving specialists, ongoing rehabilitation, and comprehensive social support. Minister Akandoh emphasized that health authorities continue to collaborate closely to accelerate her progress and explore every viable option for her care.
