Gunmen Posing as Police Storm Kwahu Palace, Queenmother Reportedly Kidnapped

Armed men dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms reportedly attacked the Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council at Abene at dawn on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The group, claiming to be officers from National Security, stormed the palace around 4 a.m., firing gunshots before allegedly abducting key traditional leaders.

According to the Kwahu Akyeamehene, Nana Asiedu Kwabena IV, the assailants abducted the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua, who was at the palace during the raid.

He also revealed that the group arrested the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, along with his driver. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

The attackers also seized the official Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Kwahuhene. Tracking information indicates the vehicle is currently headed toward Accra.

The motive behind the raid and the alleged abductions remains unclear. The Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have denied any knowledge of an approved operation involving personnel claiming to be from national security.

Sources report heightened fear and anxiety among residents, especially as the incident unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing tensions related to the Kwahu chieftaincy dispute.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement. Investigations are reportedly underway.
