The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs during an intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road, as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Police say the operation followed intelligence received on January 10, 2026, indicating that the substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema. Surveillance teams were deployed around Agomeda Junction, where two vehicles were intercepted in the early hours of January 11.

A search of the vehicles led to the discovery of the parcels, and two suspects were arrested. The exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional CID in Tema for further investigations. Police say samples will be sent for forensic analysis as preparations are made to process the suspects for court.
