South Africa’s Ministry of Police has strongly condemned the recent xenophobic violence and intimidation targeting Ghanaian nationals and other foreign residents in the country.

In a statement, the Ministry said such actions are unlawful and contradict the values of dignity, equality, and human rights on which South Africa’s democracy is built. It stressed that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of grievances.

The Ministry further warned that xenophobia, looting, violence, and intimidation will not be tolerated under any circumstances. It said the South African Police Service (SAPS) has been directed to act firmly against offenders, including anyone involved in inciting or supporting criminal acts.

Authorities also called on communities to remain calm and reject efforts to spread hatred and division. Community leaders, civil society groups, and stakeholders were urged to work closely with law enforcement to restore peace and encourage dialogue.

The statement comes after growing concerns over the safety of foreign nationals, including Ghanaians, living in South Africa.
