Ghana to Relocate Emmanuel Asamoah After Xenophobic Attack in South Africa
The Government of Ghana has announced plans to relocate Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian national legally residing in South Africa, after he became the victim of a xenophobic attack. Mr. Asamoah was reportedly targeted by a fringe vigilante group despite living lawfully in the country, raising fresh concerns about the safety of foreign nationals amid rising tensions.
According to Ghanaian authorities, officials have spoken directly with Mr. Asamoah and confirmed that he is safe, although he continues to face repeated threats. In response, the government says arrangements are being made to bring him out of South Africa as a precautionary measure while ensuring his wellbeing remains a top priority.
The Government of Ghana also praised the response of South African authorities, particularly a statement issued by the country’s Minister for Police, Prof. Firoz Cachalia. Ghana reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens both at home and abroad, stressing that no Ghanaian would be abandoned in harm’s way.
