NPP Members Living in Fear Under Mahama Government - Salam Mustapha
Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, says members of the party are increasingly living in fear due to what he describes as harassment, intimidation, and politically motivated prosecutions under the administration of John Dramani Mahama.
After the party submitted a petition to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps on May 19 regarding what it described as worrying developments in the country, Salam Mustapha told journalists that many NPP members now live with the fear of being arrested unexpectedly.
“If you are an NPP person, when you wake up, you don’t know if you are the next person on the list,” he stated.
According to him, the situation has become so tense that party members now prepare themselves mentally and physically for possible arrest whenever they leave their homes.
“These days, when you are going out, you must prepare yourself well. You must have toothpaste, toothbrush, sponge, Milo, Cerelac on you because you don’t know if you will be picked up in the next moment,” he said.
He described the atmosphere as a “sad reality” for supporters of the NPP and questioned whether the current political environment reflects the democratic principles Ghana prides itself on.
“That is the sad reality to be an NPP person in Ghana today. Is this the democracy that we want to build?” he asked.
