Minority MPs Call for Refund of Recruitment Fees
Members of the opposition in Ghana's Parliament have urged the Interior Ministry to return around GH¢113 million in fees gathered from candidates who did not advance in the latest recruitment drive for security agencies.
This demand arises after Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka shared that over 105,000 individuals progressed to the medical screening phase, even though just 5,000 spots are open for enlistment. He further noted that close to half a million people submitted applications for positions within the nation's security forces.
Speaking to the media on March 12, 2026, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, who serves as the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, criticized the administration for taking advantage of job seekers and demanded a thorough probe.
“Already, we have a national security threat and unemployment on our hands. You promised them jobs. You didn’t add any conditions. Then you turn around, you politically expand the age limit from twenty-five to thirty-five, signaling that there is more room and more access, more financial clearance, which was a lie. You knew from the very beginning you were recruiting only 5,000, and yet you did all this to lure half a million people, took their money, milked them GH¢113 million cedis and over, only to turn around yesterday, after you have knocked them out by technology and internet disruptions from the aptitude test,” he said.
Rev Fordjour emphasized the need for the government to reimburse the collected funds and promote openness in upcoming hiring processes to safeguard candidates against monetary misuse.
