NPP Initiates Process to Expel Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng is a founding and senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and one of its most prominent historical figures.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it has begun formal processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the party following comments he made during a recent television interview. In a statement dated January 13, 2026, the party said it took serious notice of remarks made by the former member on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the statement, Professor Frimpong Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and further declared that he no longer considers himself a member of the party. The NPP said these comments were not only disparaging but also damaging to the image and unity of the party.

The statement further noted that during the same interview, Professor Frimpong Boateng alleged that the party’s 2023 Presidential Primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections. The party strongly rejected these claims, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated.

The NPP emphasized that the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, reflecting the will of party delegates. It added that the process had been widely accepted by all candidates who participated, as well as by members of the party.

Describing Professor Frimpong Boateng’s conduct and utterances as highly reprehensible and contrary to the party’s core values, the NPP stated that it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence procedures to expel him. The party assured the public that the process would be carried out strictly in accordance with due process.
