Mahama, Macron Lead Global Push for Stronger Health Systems

Ghana is taking centre stage on the global health front as John Dramani Mahama prepares to co-chair the High-Level segment of the One Health Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

The high-profile gathering is expected to bring together world leaders, health ministers, and top experts to address pressing global health challenges, including disease prevention, sustainable food systems, and the strengthening of health infrastructure. Mahama’s role at the summit signals Ghana’s growing influence in shaping international responses to cross-border health threats.

At the summit, Mahama is set to deliver two keynote addresses, including one during a critical session on global health architecture co-chaired by Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization. The session is expected to drive reforms in global health systems and lead to a political declaration aimed at strengthening international cooperation.

In his second address, opening the High-Level segment for Heads of State, Mahama will outline Ghana’s vision for global health security, highlighting collaborative strategies to tackle emerging threats and reinforce resilience across sectors.
