Mahama Approves Two-Year Extension for IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno
The extension lets IGP Yohuno keep leading the Ghana Police Service. This is important as the police are making big changes. These changes aim to boost national security, improve efficiency, and build public trust.
Sources say the decision aims to keep security management steady and maintain the progress made under his leadership.
Appointed earlier this year, IGP Yohuno has been widely credited with improving police visibility, strengthening crime response mechanisms, and advancing community-policing initiatives nationwide.
He was initially scheduled to retire in December 2025, but his extended tenure will allow him to remain in office to oversee critical security programmes, modernisation projects, and ongoing personnel development within the service.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, the extension is expected to support stability within the security sector and maintain the momentum of reforms currently underway.
