Ghana is looking into sending English teachers to Colombia. This is part of a growing relationship between the two countries. The proposal was revealed by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang during a courtesy call on the Presidency by Colombian Vice President Francia Elena Márquez Mina, who is on a three-day visit to strengthen partnerships.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that while Colombian educators already support Spanish language instruction in Ghana, expanding the collaboration to include Ghanaian English teachers in Colombia would further enhance cross-cultural and educational ties.

The Vice President highlighted the impact of the long-standing Spanish language programme, which recently marked the graduation of its 12th cohort. She stressed the value Ghana places on Colombia’s support and expressed optimism about expanding this framework.

Beyond education, she pointed to existing cooperation in immigration, agriculture, technical training, aviation, sports and youth development—areas that both countries intend to strengthen further.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also underscored the need to tap into new opportunities, especially in trade, cultural exchange and tourism. She said Ghana stands to benefit from Colombia’s expertise in biodiversity-driven innovation, creative industries and agro-processing, while Colombia could leverage Ghana’s growing markets in agriculture, energy and services.

As part of the visit, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) organised a business seminar for the Colombian delegation to promote investment and deepen economic collaboration.
