Kumi was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following a joint investigation involving the FBI and multiple Ghanaian law-enforcement agencies.

He has been charged with wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering, offences that each carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

U.S. officials say the coordinated efforts between the two countries underscore the growing international cooperation in tackling cyber-enabled financial crimes.
