Ghana Summons Russian Ambassador Over Alleged Non-Consensual Explicit Videos

The Government of Ghana has summoned the Russian Ambassador to Ghana following allegations that a supposed Russian national unlawfully published sexually explicit images of Ghanaian women without their consent.

In a press release dated February 17, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ghana, His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov, was officially invited to the Ministry to address the matter.

According to the Ministry, the summons was issued on the instruction of the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs to formally register Ghana’s strong displeasure over what it described as an “atrocious conduct” that violates Ghanaian law and the privacy rights of victims.

The Ministry stated that the objective of the meeting was to seek cooperation from Russian authorities in pursuing justice.

Ambassador Berdnikov reportedly acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, particularly the violation of the privacy and dignity of the victims, as well as the broader cybercrime implications.

However, he indicated that he was unable to confirm the Russian nationality of the individual at the centre of the viral intimate videos. He further disclosed that the purported name circulating in the media is not recognized as a legitimate Russian name and instead appears to be an inappropriate or vulgar expression in the Russian language.

The Ambassador also highlighted that similar activities linked to the same individual have been reported in other countries and are currently under investigation by Russian authorities.

Despite the absence of a legally binding extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia, the Ambassador pledged that the Russian Embassy in Ghana is willing to share relevant information to assist Ghana’s ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend the suspect.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to leveraging its longstanding bilateral relations with Russia to ensure justice is served.

The government further assured the public that it will explore all available international legal tools and remedies to address the matter. The statement was addressed to all media houses for public awareness.
