Gov't Recruits 13,500 Nurses & Midwives – Salary Payments to Follow

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has confirmed the successful onboarding of 13,500 nurses and midwives into the national health system, completing a recruitment initiative that began under the previous administration.

This milestone supports the government's broader agenda to reinforce frontline healthcare services, particularly through the Free Primary Healthcare and Mahama Cares programs.

Speaking at the 19th Biennial Conference of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Tamale on November 19, Mr. Akandoh assured attendees that all newly hired personnel facing salary delays will be paid by the end of the month.

He also revealed that the government is actively considering the inclusion of the negotiated Conditions of Service for nurses and midwives in the 2026 national budget, emphasizing its commitment to fairness and improved welfare for health professionals.

The Minister called for sustained collaboration between the Ministry of Health, labor bodies, and the GRNMA to address deployment challenges, enhance specialist training, and ensure long-term workforce stability—key elements in delivering quality healthcare nationwide.
