Duabo King Arrested for Publishing False News on TikTok

In a recent press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service's Ashanti Regional Headquarters on March 1, 2026, authorities announced the arrest of Isaac Boafo, also widely known online as "Duabo King".

The 45-year-old suspect was apprehended by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (Ashanti Region) following intelligence reports about a viral video he posted on TikTok.

In the clip, Boafo alleged that four police officers attached to the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers while on night patrol duties in the Asafo area of the city.

According to the official statement:

1. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to creating and publishing the video.
2. He described himself as a social media content creator and confessed that the allegations were fabricated solely to attract views, likes, and online engagement.
3. Boafo was unable to provide any evidence or substantiation for the serious claims against the officers. He also acknowledged making unsubstantiated comments about the President of the Republic for similar content-creation purposes.

The police emphasized that such actions fall under the offence of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic. Boafo has been formally charged and remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The full press release, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo (Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Region), serves as a strong warning to the public:

"The Police wish to caution the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media, as such acts have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage. Persons found engaging in such conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law."

Authorities continue to urge citizens to verify facts before sharing content online and to report suspicious or harmful posts through official channels.
