Ghana Begins Preparations to Deploy Troops for ECOWAS Mission in Benin

Ghana has started the steps to get its troops ready for a mission in Benin. This is part of an ECOWAS standby mission after a recent attempted coup in the country.

The move forms part of a broader regional effort aimed at reinforcing constitutional governance and supporting Benin’s legitimate authorities after a group of soldiers briefly claimed to have seized power. ECOWAS swiftly authorised a military response to help stabilise the situation and prevent further unrest.

As one of the member states contributing personnel to the mission, Ghana is coordinating with regional partners to ensure an organised and effective deployment. Security analysts, however, have advised ECOWAS to adopt a carefully planned approach to avoid potential risks associated with rushed intervention.

Despite these concerns, the mission highlights West Africa’s commitment to responding decisively to threats against democratic order and maintaining stability within the sub-region.
