Education Ministry to Review Computerized School Placement System
The Ministry of Education has announced plans to set up a technical team in the coming days to undertake a comprehensive review of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
During a surprise working visit to the Presbyterian Senior High School in Accra, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the move seeks to promote greater transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the placement of students into second-cycle institutions across the country.
He commended the staff of the school for their dedication to duty and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure, teaching resources, and administrative systems that ensure equitable access to quality education.
The Minister emphasized that the forthcoming review will involve key stakeholders, including education managers, as well as representatives of parents and students, to guarantee that the placement system continues to serve the best interests of Ghanaian children.
“The Computerized Placement System is not working well for the country, and I’m happy to review this — and I will review it. I’ll put in place a committee to assess its performance and give me a credible alternative. What we need is meritorious admission,” he said.
“Nobody would accept that you get aggregate six and still can’t get your first-choice school. What can explain that? It cannot be explained because that candidate has been pushed away by protocol. That’s unfair. And we’ll look closely into that to see what we’ll do.”
Mr. Iddrisu’s visit formed part of efforts to interact with students, teachers, and management to gain firsthand insights into the conditions of teaching and learning, infrastructure, and the school’s overall preparedness for the academic term.
