Man Arrested For Attempting to Sell His Son
The Eastern South Police Command has arrested a man named Coffie Agyemang. He is accused of trying to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million in the Eastern Region.
The suspect, who resides at Kwamang in the Denkyembour District, was apprehended by the Akwatia Police following intelligence received from residents in the community. According to local sources, Agyemang allegedly confided in a friend about plans to sell his child due to extreme financial hardship. The information was subsequently reported to the police.
Police officers reportedly placed the suspect under surveillance and posed as potential buyers. After negotiations, an amount of GH¢1 million was allegedly agreed upon. The suspect is said to have brought the child to a designated meeting location, where he was arrested by officers.
Additional allegations suggest the suspect intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, after which the body would be returned to him to make it appear as though the child had been murdered elsewhere. Police say these claims are part of ongoing investigations and have not yet been conclusively established.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern South Police Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case. The child has since been placed in protective custody while investigations continue.
