Teachers Posted to Rural Areas to Receive 20% Salary Top-Up – Deputy Education Minister
Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak has revealed a new incentive aimed at encouraging educators to serve in underserved regions. Teachers who accept postings to rural and deprived communities will benefit from a 20% top-up on their gross salary.
This announcement was made during a courtesy visit from outstanding performers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), where Apaak highlighted the government's resolve to reduce disparities across Ghana's education landscape.
As part of the 'Teacher Dabre' Programme, qualified teachers assigned to remote and challenging areas will also gain accommodation assistance alongside the financial boost. The initiative is crafted to render rural teaching positions far more appealing, ultimately enhancing the quality of instruction and student outcomes at the basic education stage.
Apaak further noted that these steps, first outlined by President John Mahama in his State of the Nation Address, seek to guarantee that learners in less privileged communities enjoy equal chances to thrive and succeed, just like those in urban settings.
By offering this extra motivation—20% additional pay—the policy rewards dedicated teachers willing to contribute in rural locations, fostering greater equity in national education.
