62-year-old woman butchered at Twifo Denyase
A 62-year-old woman was killed in a cutlass attack at Twifo Denyase Camp. This happened in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region. The suspect was later found dead under unclear circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Baby Abienor, was reportedly attacked on the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, by a 30-year-old co-tenant, Hormeku Agbemor.
Her daughter, identified only as Gladys, sustained serious injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
According to preliminary police information, the suspect allegedly launched an unprovoked attack at about 8:00 a.m. while residing in the same house as the victims at Twifo Denyase Camp.
Eyewitnesses say the suspect suddenly turned violent and inflicted multiple machete wounds on the two women. Baby Abienor reportedly died at the scene from severe injuries.
Gladys was initially rushed to a nearby CHPS compound for emergency treatment before being referred to St. Francis Xavier Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
The Twifo Praso District Police Command responded swiftly after receiving reports of the incident.
Officers were led to a wooden structure belonging to The Apostolic Church, Ghana, where the victims and suspect were said to be temporarily residing.
Police found the lifeless body of Baby Abienor lying face down. She had deep wounds on her neck and left arm, believed to have been inflicted with a cutlass.
About 15 metres away from the initial scene, officers discovered the body of the suspect, Hormeku Agbemor, with his hands and legs tied with rope.
Police suspect he may have been attacked by angry residents following the incident, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on the morning of the incident, the suspect allegedly began exhibiting unusual behaviour and verbally attacking the two women.
Sensing danger, Baby Abienor reportedly rushed to inform a church elder. However, by the time the elder arrived, she had been fatally injured.
The elder is said to have alerted the Assembly Member and other community members. Shortly after, the suspect was found dead a few metres from the scene.
Police have since processed the scene and conveyed the bodies of both the deceased woman and the suspect to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
