Three SWESBUS Students Arrested Over Assault at Inter-Schools Athletics Competition in Agona Swedru

The Ghana Police Service Central Regional Command has arrested three students of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) in Agona Swedru following a violent incident during a district inter-schools athletics competition.

The suspects — Joseph Amoh (20), Benedict Appiah (18), and Bilal Mamud (18) — are expected to be arraigned before court in connection with the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 24, the police disclosed that the arrests came after high-level engagements between the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, Lydia Yaako Donkor, and the management of SWESBUS.

According to the statement, authorities of Swedru School of Business handed over the three suspects to the Swedru Divisional Police Command at about 9:00 pm on the same day.

The Regional Command strongly condemned the students’ conduct and cautioned young people against engaging in violence that threatens safety within educational institutions.

The victim, Akpekakovi Fiadzigbe of Obrachire SHTS, has called for justice, insisting that those responsible must face the full rigours of the law.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Monday, February 23, 2026, after being discharged from the hospital, he described the attack as unprovoked.

According to him, he was looking for a place to sit and apply medication to his eye when stones were thrown at him unexpectedly. He said he did not provoke the attackers and was unaware of what was happening until he was struck.

A video of the incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows chaotic scenes during the competition.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns about student safety during inter-school competitions in the Central Region.

Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that anyone found culpable will face the law.
