'Our Artistes and Businesses Are Being Cancelled Outside South Africa' — Minister

South African Minister for Justice, Mmamoloko Kubayi has expressed concern over the growing impact of xenophobia allegations on South Africans living and working abroad, saying local artistes and businesses are already feeling the effects.

According to her, some South African entertainers have lost international opportunities, with one artiste reportedly informing her that all of her performances across the continent had been cancelled. Kubayi noted that the cancellations represent a significant loss of income and highlighted the broader economic consequences of the backlash.

“We cannot ignore the backlash,” she said, adding that the government is engaging with South African businesses operating abroad and other stakeholders to address the situation and mitigate its impact on citizens and companies affected by the controversy.
