Ghanaian Woman in ICU After Brutal Xenophobic Attack in South Africa - High Commissioner
A Ghanaian woman is currently battling for her life in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in South Africa after she was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault linked to recent xenophobic tensions in the country.
The disturbing incident was confirmed by Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quarshie, who expressed concern over the growing dangers faced by some foreign nationals living and working there.
According to the High Commissioner, the woman was attacked after a group of individuals reportedly confronted her at her place of business and demanded to see her identification documents.
Although she is said to have complied with the request and presented the necessary papers, the situation allegedly escalated when the group demanded money from her.
After questioning the demand and refusing to hand over any cash, she was reportedly assaulted and left with severe injuries.
Mr. Quarshie disclosed that the victim remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment in the ICU as medical personnel work to save her life.
The incident comes amid renewed concerns about xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, prompting calls for stronger protection measures and swift action against those responsible.
The development has also heightened anxiety among Ghanaian residents in the country, many of whom are closely monitoring the situation.
