South Korean Woman Jailed for Extortion After False Pregnancy Claim Against Son Heung-min
A South Korean woman who attempted to extort Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min by falsely claiming she was pregnant with his child has been handed a four-year prison sentence.
The woman, identified only by her surname Yang and said to be in her 20s, threatened to make the alleged pregnancy public unless Son paid her for her silence. She reportedly collected 300 million won (about $205,000) from the footballer and later attempted to demand a further 70 million won. A man in his 40s was also charged for conspiring with her during the extortion attempt.
According to a ruling by the Seoul Central District Court, Yang received a four-year jail term while her male accomplice was sentenced to two years. The court noted that the pair deliberately targeted Son because of his fame and used his vulnerability to such allegations as leverage, causing him significant emotional distress.
The case has sparked widespread public discussion in South Korea about celebrity exploitation and the legal consequences of false claims aimed at public figures.
