Sadio Mané Retires from International Football After Legendary Senegal Career
After years of carrying Senegal's hopes on the biggest football stages, Sadio Mané has decided to close the national team chapter of his career, leaving behind a legacy that transformed the history of the Lions of Teranga.
The 34-year-old confirmed his decision in a statement published by QuotidienSN, where he expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Senegalese people and reflected on the commitment he gave to representing his nation.

"Know that I sacrificed everything for this flag. I gave the best of myself and I always fought fiercely for our homeland."
Mané also paid tribute to Senegal's supporters, acknowledging their unwavering encouragement throughout his career.
"Your constant support has been the engine of my success."
Although he is stepping away from international competition, the former Liverpool star revealed that he still hopes to contribute to Senegalian football in another role.
"Tomorrow, it is with pleasure that I will put my experience at the service of the Nation, whether within a technical staff, on a coaching bench or in the governing bodies."
Mané retires as Senegal's all-time leading scorer, having netted 53 goals in 126 appearances for the national team. He set the record in 2022 after surpassing the previous benchmark held by Henri Camara and also finishes his international career as one of Senegal's most-capped players, ranking behind only Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Among his greatest achievements was leading Senegal to its historic first Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2022. Mané was crowned the tournament's Best Player after scoring three goals and calmly converting the decisive penalty in the shootout victory over Egypt.
He also played a vital role in Senegal's qualification for the 2018 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, becoming one of the country's most influential footballers during his international career.
During the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Mané once again captained Senegal to the final and earned the tournament's Best Player award following another impressive campaign.
His retirement marks the end of an era for Senegalese football, leaving behind a legacy defined by leadership, commitment, and remarkable achievements on the international stage.
