Ivory Coast President Appoints Brother as Vice Prime Minister
Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has appointed his brother, Téné Birahima Ouattara, who currently serves as Minister of Defence, as Vice Prime Minister of the country. He will hold the new position alongside his defence portfolio.
The appointment was announced during a minor cabinet reshuffle on Friday, January 23.
The reshuffle comes after President Ouattara secured re-election in October for a fourth term, winning nearly 90 percent of the vote.
The 84-year-old leader has been in power since 2011 and has stated that his focus is on preparing the ground for a new generation of political leaders during his tenure.
