NPP Opts Out of Tamale Central By-Election After MP’s Death
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared it will not participate in the upcoming Tamale Central parliamentary by-election, which follows the passing of the constituency’s MP, Alhaji Hon. Dr. Murtala Mohammed, in the August 6 helicopter crash.

The decision was reached during a National Steering Committee meeting on August 11, in line with Article 10(10)(1) of the party’s constitution. The NPP explained that the choice was influenced by the tragic nature of the vacancy and the desire to prevent heightened political tensions during this sensitive period.
