A Nigerian Army brigade commander, Brigadier-General O. Braimah, has been killed alongside several soldiers after Boko Haram militants launched a coordinated attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

A senior commander in the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General O. Braimah, has been killed following a deadly attack by Boko Haram on a military base in Benisheikh, located in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The late commander led the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai and was reportedly killed in action alongside several soldiers during the coordinated assault, which took place late on Wednesday, April 8.

According to multiple military and local sources, the terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on positions in Benisheikh and Ngamdu, overpowering parts of the brigade formation after intense gunfire exchanges.

The base was set ablaze, destroying several military assets, while the brigade’s Imam was also reported among the casualties. Although some of the attackers were neutralized during the confrontation, the Nigerian Army is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
