Uganda’s long-serving President, Yoweri Museveni, has been declared the winner of the country’s general election, securing a seventh consecutive term in office.

According to provisional results reported by Uganda-based NTV, President Museveni polled 5,148,845 votes, representing 75.38% of the total votes cast, comfortably defeating his challengers.

The main opposition candidate, Robert Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, placed second with 1,414,619 votes (20.17%). He was followed by Nathana Nandala, who secured 144,564 votes (2.12%).

Other contenders posted significantly lower numbers. Mugisha Muntu obtained 38,582 votes (0.56%), while Frank Buura garnered 29,713 votes (0.44%).
The remaining candidates recorded marginal shares: Robert Kasibante with 20,626 votes (0.30%), Mubarak Munyagwa with 19,034 votes (0.28%), and Joseph Mabirizi with 14,106 votes (0.21%).

Prior to the counting of ballots, Bobi Wine warned of nationwide protests should the election be rigged, citing concerns over the transparency of the process.

On election day, reports emerged of polling delays and technical challenges in several areas. Electoral officials explained that some delays were caused by malfunctions in biometric voter identification kits. Other observers pointed to an internet and network shutdown that reportedly began the night before voting commenced.

Museveni’s victory further extends his decades-long hold on power, reinforcing his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders. While supporters have hailed the outcome as a reflection of popular support, opposition figures are expected to continue questioning the conduct of the polls in the days ahead.

As Uganda awaits the final certified results, attention now turns to the post-election atmosphere and calls for calm amid lingering political tensions.
