Government Upgrades Mankranso SHS to a Category 'A' School After Remarkable NSMQ Performance

The government has revealed plans to significantly enhance Mankraso Senior High School following its outstanding performance in the recent National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, speaking in Accra on Wednesday, November 19, emphasized that the move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to elevate high-achieving schools and foster academic excellence across the country.

He announced that Mankraso SHS has been added to a national school improvement initiative, which includes upgrading 10 category B schools to category A, and 10 category C schools to category B.

“On my way here, I decided to include Mankraso SHS because of their remarkable showing in the NSMQ. It’s important they know their country recognizes and values their achievement,” he said.

The planned upgrade will boost the school’s infrastructure, increase its capacity, and better equip it to compete in future academic contests, while also promoting access to quality education.

Additionally, the Minister disclosed that under the 2026 budget, the government will complete 30 community day senior high schools—commonly referred to as e-blocks—funded through a $180 million allocation.

These combined efforts aim to improve educational equity and ensure that more schools are equipped to deliver strong academic results.
