The reception has been amazing, I’m having so much fun — South Africa’s Luvo Manyonga

Luvo Manyonga, the African continental record holder and former world champion, addressed the media after his gold medal triumph at the 24th CAA African Seniors Athletics Championships Accra 2026 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Manyonga, who holds the African record in the men’s long jump with an outstanding leap of 8.65m set in 2017, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality shown to him and other athletes in Ghana throughout the championship.

Speaking about his experience in Ghana, he said: “Ghana is a very beautiful country. The atmosphere is great, I’m having so much fun, and the food is nice. So far, the reception has been amazing, and the people have been very welcoming.”

He also spoke about the weather conditions compared to those in South Africa. According to him, South Africa has “the best weather in the world,” with “four seasons in one day,” but he noted that Ghana’s weather has also been excellent for athletics.
