Kwesi Arthur Breaks Silence on Record Label Dispute That Stalled His Music Career
Award-winning Ghanaian rapper and singer Kwesi Arthur has made a startling public revelation about his former record label, Ground Up Chale, accusing the company and its founder, Glen Boateng, of actions that have significantly stalled his music career.

In a strongly worded statement shared publicly, the "Grind Day" hitmaker claimed he is being demanded to pay US$150,000 simply for using images of himself for a current independent project. According to Kwesi Arthur, the label insists it owns his image, music, and “everything attached to it” from 2016 to date — despite his claim that he has not been affiliated with the company since the era of his debut album Son of Jacob.
Kwesi Arthur further alleged that he has not earned any income from his music during the years he worked with the label and continues to face “constant threats and manipulation.” He accused Glen Boateng of living off his money and hard work, and of actively working to ensure he never releases music again.
In the emotional post, the rapper warned that if anything happens to him or if his current independent project is taken down, Glen Boateng and the entire Ground Up Chale team should be held responsible. He revealed that the prolonged dispute has deeply affected his wellbeing and mental health, but said he chose to speak out now for the safety of himself and his family.
“If anything happens to me… Glen Boateng and all team members of Ground Up Chale are responsible… I am currently being asked to pay $150,000 for using images of myself… I have not made a dime from any of my music… I receive constant threats and manipulation… For the safety of myself and my family, I choose to publicly share the truth.” — Kwesi Arthur
The revelation has sent shockwaves across Ghana’s music industry, with fans and industry observers calling for clarity, accountability, and legal transparency in artist-label relationships. Many supporters have since taken to social media to express solidarity with the multiple award-winning artiste.
As the situation unfolds, neither Ground Up Chale nor Glen Boateng has officially responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
