Every District to Receive 20 Two-Bedroom Homes Under Greenville Housing Programme – Works Minister
The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources is Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.

The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources is Kenneth Gilbert Adjei. He has announced the beginning of the Greenville District Housing Programme. This program is a nationwide effort to help low- to middle-income earners find affordable housing.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Minister explained that the programme is designed to decentralise housing delivery by ensuring that every district benefits from government-supported residential development.

According to Mr. Adjei, the programme has already entered its pilot phase in eight districts: South Dayi, Asuogyaman, Akyemansa, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Atwima Kwanwoma, Dormaa West, Bole, and Tamale.

“In its pilot phase, the programme has commenced in eight districts, and the projects are at various stages of completion. Each district is expected to receive 20 two-bedroom housing units,” the Minister stated.

He noted that the Greenville District Housing Programme is intended to serve as a national blueprint for climate-resilient and resource-efficient housing.

To enhance sustainability and structural durability, the Ministry is adopting a hybrid construction approach, combining compressed earth bricks with traditional sandcrete blocks. The project is also 100 percent EDGE-certified, incorporating low-carbon and locally sourced materials in line with Ghana’s climate commitments.

The initiative comes at a time when rapid urbanisation, with more than 50 percent of Ghanaians now living in cities, has increased pressure on housing infrastructure in major urban centres such as Accra and Kumasi.

Mr. Adjei described the Greenville initiative as an important step toward improving living standards and promoting inclusivity nationwide.

The official national launch of the Greenville District Housing Programme is expected in the coming weeks. The project forms part of the government’s broader “resetting” agenda, which seeks to drive equity, sustainability, and transformation within the works and housing sub-sectors.
