Ghanaian Student in Coventry Stabbed to Death
An 18-year-old named Michael Ababio, believed to be of Ghanaian descent, died after a targeted knife attack. The attack happened outside Foleshill Library on Broad Street in Coventry on Sunday night. The death has sparked a major homicide investigation.

Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing at about 9:40 p.m. and rushed the teenager to hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, he tragically passed away the following day.
In a heartbreaking tribute, Michael’s twin brother described him as his “second half,” speaking of the deep bond they shared. “Most people won’t know what it is like to have a twin, but I do,” he said. “Michael was more than just a brother… He aligned with everything that I liked. Words cannot express the pain we are all feeling right now. Our family will never be the same.”
West Midlands Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man, who also suffered injuries during the incident, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Authorities are also examining a separate disorder that occurred about 20 minutes later on nearby Foleshill Road. Four individuals were arrested in connection with that disturbance, and one person has since been charged with assault. However, officers believe the two incidents are not directly linked.
Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, who is leading the investigation, said the force’s “sole focus” is securing justice for Michael’s grieving family. Police have reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed witnesses but are urging anyone with further information to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing.
