Ghana Increases Cocoa Producer Price to GHC 3,625 per Bag

The Government of Ghana has announced a fresh increase in the producer price of cocoa, raising it from GHC 3,225 to GHC 3,625 per 64kg bag, effective October 3, 2025. This adjustment, which translates to GHC 58,000 per tonne, comes as a mid-season intervention to ensure farmers receive fairer compensation amid rising global cocoa prices.

The increment represents a GHC 400 boost per bag, offering cocoa farmers some relief at a time when input costs and living expenses continue to climb. Officials say the move is also intended to keep Ghana’s cocoa prices competitive with neighboring Côte d’Ivoire, which recently announced its own price revision.

This is the second upward adjustment within the year. The last increment came in April 2024, when the government raised the producer price from GHC 2,070 to GHC 3,821 per bag for the 2024/2025 crop season—a record jump of over 63%.

While today’s increase is more modest, it reinforces the government’s commitment to shielding farmers from the volatility of the international cocoa market. Stakeholders, however, maintain that more structural measures are needed to secure long-term welfare for farmers, especially as Ghana remains one of the world’s leading cocoa exporters.
