Ghana, Canada Deepen Educational Cooperation with $30M TVET Investment

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening educational ties with Canada during a courtesy call by the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat.

Mr. Iddrisu expressed appreciation for Canada’s continued support of Ghana’s development, particularly in the education sector.

“Canada’s dedication to poverty alleviation and education has been remarkable, and Ghana has greatly benefited from this partnership,” he said.

The Minister also emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, highlighting the importance of academic exchange and innovation.

Responding to this, H.E. Montrat underscored Canada’s focus on skills development and youth empowerment.

“Our focus is to support Ghana in developing a skilled workforce that can compete globally,” she noted.

She further announced a 30 million Canadian dollar commitment towards youth competency-based training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.

Welcoming the announcement, Mr. Iddrisu described the investment as a crucial step in Ghana’s educational transformation.

“Strengthening technical education and laying a solid foundation for learning are key to Ghana’s educational transformation, and we look forward to deepening this partnership with Canada,” he added.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared vision of inclusive, quality education that equips young people with the skills needed for the future.
