Ghana Armed Forces Debunks Viral Claim on HIV Positives Among Applicants
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted a viral media publication claiming that about 60 percent of applicants who underwent military medical screening tested positive for HIV.
In an official press release dated January 25, 2026, the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters in Burma Camp described the claim as “fake news” and urged the public to completely disregard it.
According to the statement, the medical screening process for applicants is still ongoing and no official results have been declared at this time.
"The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state categorically that the publication is fake news and should be ignored by all,” the release said.
Investigations Underway
The military high command disclosed that efforts are currently underway to trace the originators of what it described as a “mischievous story.” Authorities say the false publication has the potential to mislead the public and cause unnecessary panic.
GAF also issued a caution to media practitioners, bloggers, vloggers and content creators to exercise restraint and professionalism when reporting sensitive matters.
“The Ghana Armed Forces once again urges media practitioners, especially content creators and bloggers/vloggers, to be circumspect and crosscheck their facts before going to press,” the statement added.

The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces.
Background Earlier reports circulating on social media alleged that more than half of applicants screened for enlistment into the armed forces had tested positive for HIV — a claim now officially discredited.
The Ghana Armed Forces maintains that the recruitment medical process remains ongoing and that any official findings will be communicated through the appropriate channels.
