Bawumia Urges NPP Delegates to Retain Him as Flagbearer for 2028 Victory

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party delegates to keep faith with him as the flagbearer ahead of the 2028 elections. Speaking to delegates in Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia argued that Ghana’s political history shows a consistent trend where parties that stick with a candidate across election cycles eventually secure victory.

He cited examples from both the NPP and NDC, including John Agyekum Kufuor, John Evans Atta Mills, Nana Akufo-Addo, and John Mahama, all of whom won after multiple attempts.

According to him, the NPP stands to benefit if the party maintains him as its torchbearer, especially after years of political marketing and national visibility. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that no first-time candidate has ever won a presidential election in Ghana, underscoring why continuity is critical for the party.

He described himself as the “most marketed, prepared, and winnable candidate” and appealed to delegates to vote for him in the January 31, 2026 flagbearer contest. His engagement with Constituency Executives in the Ashanti Region marked the beginning of a three-day campaign to strengthen ties with grassroots delegates ahead of the contest.
