Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has spoken out to clarify his role in the party’s electoral defeat. According to him, the findings of the Mike Oquaye Committee clearly show that he should not be blamed for the loss.

The committee, led by former Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, was tasked with analyzing why the NPP underperformed in the 2024 elections. While the full report hasn’t been made public for “strategic reasons,” Dr. Bawumia says it has put to rest rumors and misinformation that had wrongly targeted certain individuals within the party.

He expressed satisfaction with the report’s findings, emphasizing that it provides a roadmap for the NPP to rebuild and strengthen its internal structures. With the NPP winning only 88 parliamentary seats against the NDC’s 184, the loss was a wake-up call for the party.
